Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a leading cause of heart attack and stroke. Unfortunately, high blood pressure is also one of the most ignored or neglected conditions, in spite of being easily prevented or treated. If that seems incredible, here's something to think about:
- Approximately 25% of the US adult population currently has high blood pressure
- Of the above number, only 68% are aware that they have this condition and only 27% of these people are proactive in managing it
- This year, 2,000,000 additional cases of high blood pressure will be diagnosed
- More men than women under the age of 55 suffer from high blood pressure. However, high blood pressure affects more women over the age of 55 than men
- Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the US, with stroke being third
Drug therapy can be helpful for many patients with hypertension. However, such medications pose certain risks. For instance, diuretics can deplete the body of potassium, cause muscle cramping, gout, and blood sugar levels to spike, the latter being of particular concern for diabetics. Other blood pressure medications, such as beta-blockers and ACE inhibitors, can cause asthma-like symptoms or chronic cough, depression, or kidney damage.
Suggested Use: as a dietary supplement, adults should take three (3) tablets of Blood Pressure Support daily or as directed by a health care professional.
